Should we just elope?

Every bride will have at least one panicked moment in the wedding process and may wonder if they should have run away together and simply be married, but some couples do actually take that step and decide to elope.

The actual meaning of elope is when two lovers run away together with the intention of getting married. In past history it may have been because of a surprise pregnancy or the parents forbade the match of husband and wife.

These days, however, when people refer to eloping, they usually mean a planned destination wedding where the only people present are the bride and groom and a couple of witnesses. The witnesses might be provided by us as the wedding venue or one or two of your closest friends.Sometimes it is our photographer from Artography but she hates her writing on a nice new certificate!

Some stay in the Hinterland of Maleny and Montville or by the beach only 20 minutes away at Caloundra or Noosa. Montville Country Cabins is often chosen as a perfect escape for a few a few days in a Hinterland Hideaway and a couples day spa at Spicers Tamarind along with our fine dining, gourmet Maleny Cheese Factory and Colin James Fine Foods for the perfect Gelato a few days to relax ,take in the art trail and just be together. We love winter the best in front of a cozy fire.

So why elope? If you are tempted by the idea of exchanging your vows in a beautiful pavilion looking out to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and then having a private photo shoot onsite or you want to fly in via chopper over the Glasshouse Mountains see our for and against list below, to help make up your mind.

For Eloping
  • 1. Your wedding day will be very personal and intimate, and will be just about the two of you together, rather than about all the stuff.
  • 2. Expense! saving your wedding costs for your house deposit or an amazing honeymoon of your dreams.
  • 3. The most common reason we find for eloping is the  loss of a close family making it too hard to go through with a big ceremony and large reception without a lot of sadness. Our the gaining of family members (your kids) who may come along even before you ever thought of getting married.
Against Eloping
  • 1. You might regret excluding your family from your wedding celebrations, even if you think it won’t matter at this moment . There are many significant moments during a traditional wedding ceremony, that involves your family coming together as one.Seeing the pride in your fathers face as he takes your arm, or your mums first look at you in your gown.Families only get together on special occasions now and a wedding is considered one of those moments.
  • 2. Family and friends may react badly to your elopement. It is easy to say that it is your wedding and you should please yourself, but it is not going to be a great start to married life if you have distanced yourself from your closest friends. People are sometimes offended of they don’t get an invite to your wedding, or if you arrange a wedding that they can’t go to, especially if they have catered for you at their wedding.
  • 3. You might in the long term regret not having all the trimmings and a larger group to share in your day.

The best thing I ate in Sydney?

Twice cooked pork at Maleny Manor, Qld ,Thanks Eatori

Technical details aside (Maleny being in the Queensland hinterland, not Sydney), this counts as one of the best things I ate down under. It could have been because of the way the pork gently splayed across a fork when you plundered it; the perfect balance of fat to flavour. It could have been because of the sweet and piquant sauce that came with it. Or it could have been because of what was on the table right before it arrived. Wedding food is hard to get right. You want it to appeal to a multitude of tastes. You want it to be forgiving for the kitchen to prep and plate. And you don’t want it to upstage the real stars of the day.  In this instance, the bonbonierrie that was placed on each of the plates at the start of the meal was the sweetest reminder of some of the best attributes of the couple in question. Both the bride and groom have a ferocious sense of social justice; so instead of sugared almonds, chocolates, or picture frames, on each place there was a piece of card.

Every guest at the wedding had been bought a present from Oxfam Unwrapped. Mine was a bag of seeds, to be stored in a seed bank in developing communities for harder times, or sown to grow crops to eat or sell.  After reading that;  everything tastes spectacular (though I promise, the pork belly was very, very good)

Maleny Manor Review

Maleny Manor wedding

Wonderful Staff and Dedicated Service…. we felt the magic of Maleny Manor

It’s hard to accurately describe Maleny Manor Sunshine Coast as words really don’t do it justice!
From our very first meeting ,we felt the magic of the Manor. The drive to Maleny, Australia was just beautiful and once we drove down the winding driveway we couldnt believe what we saw infront of us. It truely was a spectacular view, we soon found out that the inside of the Manor, its manicured grounds and wonderful staff were just as special!
When you visit the Manor it really does speak for itself. We loved that we could have both the Ceremony and Reception in the same place and a Garden party in between so guests would be entertained while we were away having location photographs.
From that day we knew this is where we wanted to share our special day with our beloved family and friends. Once we booked our wedding date we couldnt wait to start organsing everything. The staff at the Manor were more than happy to recommend vendors and help us organise our day. Marlene and her staff soon became part of our family. You could tell they loved weddings and cared very much about the couples they would see get married at their venue. Allowing our precious staffy’s to be included in our day was the icing on the cake.
We have had nothing but good feedback from all of our guests that attended. They commented on the beautiful grounds around the Manor, the friendly and professional staff, the outstanding service and the wonderful menu offered.
We can not thank Marlene and her team enough for welcoming us with open arms on the first day we met at Maleny Manor, helping us through the planning process and supporting us on our wedding day! We will be forever greatful! We still keep in contact with them now and can’t wait to go and visit them again in the future.
We would not change a thing and would recommend Maleny Manor as a Wedding and Reception venue to everyone!
