Maleny Sunshine Coast Queensland Favourite Moment: Our favourite moment of the day was our first kiss. Our dogs were involved in our special day and right on cue as we had our first kiss as husband and wife they barked.
Tips for a great day:
1. Keep a record of everything related to the wedding.
We booked our wedding approximetely 1.5 years ahead of our date. To keep everything organised and us on track we made what we like to call ‘our wedding bible’. It came to every vendor meeting and shopping trip with us. We would have been lost without it.
2. Try to relax, take a step back, take everything in and most of all enjoy your special day!
On the morning of our wedding just before I had my makeup done I had enough time to walk our dogs. It was a great time to reflect on the year that had been and to finally be able to say to myself today is our big day! At the end of the day if you are married to your best friend and have your most treasured family and friends around you nothing else matters!
3. Brides consider your choice of shoes!
I absolutely loved my wedding shoes, they had diamonte detail on the front, just enough sparkle. Unfortunately because my dress was lace the front diamonte detail on the shoe got entangled in my dress throughout the day. I can honestly say that, that would be the only thing I would change about the day.
Experience at the Manor:
Its hard to accurately describe Maleny Manor as words really dont do it justice!
From our very first meeting with Marlene we felt the magic of the Manor. The drive to Maleny was just beautiful and once we drove down the winding driveway to the Manor we couldnt believe what we saw infront of us. It truely was a spectacular view, we soon found out that the inside of the Manor, its manicured grounds and wonderful staff were just as special!
When you visit the Manor it really does speak for itself. We loved that we could have both the Ceremony and Reception in the same place and a Garden party in between so guests would be entertained while we were away having location photographs.
From that day we knew this is where we wanted to share our special day with our beloved family and friends. Once we booked our wedding date we couldnt wait to start organsing everything. The staff at the Manor were more than happy to recommend vendors and help us organise our day. Marlene and her staff soon became part of our family. You could tell they loved weddings and cared very much about the couples they would see get married at their venue. Allowing our precious staffy’s to be included in our day was the icing on the cake.
We have had nothing but good feedback from all of our guests that attended. They commented on the beautiful grounds around the Manor, the friendly and professional staff, the outstanding service and the wonderful menu offered.
We can not thank Marlene and her team enough for welcoming us with open arms on the first day we met at Maleny Manor, helping us through the planning process and supporting us on our wedding day! We will be forever greatful! We still keep in contact with them now and can’t wait to go and visit them again in the future.
We would not change a thing and would recommend Maleny Manor as a Wedding and Reception venue to everyone!
Part of planning we enjoyed most…
We wanted our wedding to reflect us as much as possible so we had a lot of DIY projects that were included in our day. Many of our family and friends helped us with such items which was a really lovely way to spend time with each of them before the big day. The lead up to the wedding was such a special time in our life which was made enjoyable through the support of the team at the Manor, our vendors and our family and friends.
My parents (bride) and Chris and I made various signs that were used throughout the ceremony and garden party setting. My dad (bride) made our beautiful wedding arbour. My (bride) mum and I spent many weekends personalising book covers and printing pillow, my mum even made a few pieces of furniture and a kissing booth that were used for our garden party
We had a girly catch up where Chris’s mum, my mum and I decorted the jars and vases that were used to hang flowers off of the chairs at the ceremony, the tables at the garden party and also the reception. My beautiful bridesmaids filled the jars used for the garden party with flowers purchased from a local flower farm the night before the wedding and they looked great! My Mum and Dad (bride) made the gorgeous floral colars for our dogs, Bella and Lilly
My maid of honors sister, Tara (who was also a guest at our wedding) who owns Ribbons and Lace Cupcakes, made our beautiful wedding cake. It tasted as good as it looked and we cant wait to relive the day all over again when we share the top tier with each other on our first anniversary.
Our wedding was styled by Love Bird Weddings and the floral concepts for the arbour and reception were provided by Mondo Floral Designs. They allowed us to incorporate many of our own pieces into the wedding. We made the table runners, the MR &MRS chair covers, guests table gifts and we provided the cute ceramic birds that were placed on the table which were purchased on a holiday in the UK, where I am originally from.
We purchased the vases and confectionary for the lolly buffet and my bridesmaids kindly set that up on the morning of the wedding. We made all of our own stationary, from our save the dates, Wedding invitations and Menu’s for on the guest tables.I made up rescue baskets for the Women’s and Men’s bathrooms, they were a huge hit! I visited a local salvage shop to purchase the window that we used for our seating board.
A special mention needs to go to my beautiful and kindhearted sister in law Tarhnee, who owns Tarhnee Kay, Beauty, Nails, Makeup and Hair. She genoursly did our hair and makeup on the day. She did an exquistite job as always and it was so lovely having her there while we were all getting ready
Favourite pretty thing…
My favourite pretty thing would have to be my beautiful Brooch Bouquet which was made by Liza from Lillybuds Bespoke Bridal which is based in Perth. It was just gorgeous and is now proudly displayed in our house. It was made with over 100 brooches and inlcuded a small blue brooch at the back of the bouquet which I was able to use as my ‘something blue’. I was able to personalise the bouquet by adding my own locket which inlcuded photos of loved ones that could not be with us on our day but who will be forever in our hearts…
Wedding entry music:
I walked down the aisle to one of our favourite songs The Scientist, by Coldplay, played by Angel Strings, String Trio. This song has significant meaning to us and we knew from the night we got engaged that it would be the song I walked down the aisle to.
At the end of 2004, when we were 17 and a year into our relationship my mother and father needed to move back to the UK (where we are originally from) for work commitments. At the time I had the hard decision of whether to stay in Australia with or go with them. I listened to that song a lot during the decision period and even printed the words out so that I could learn them off by heart (the things you do when your 17 and in love). Anyway I left the printed words out one day and my Dad happened to see them and thought that Chris had written the words as a poem to me… Quite funny really, we still laugh about it to this day. Needless to say I decided to stay and we have been inseparable ever since.
First dance:
We chose ‘You’ve got the love’ by Florence and the Machines as we loved the song and knew we would have fun dancing to it. We didn’t want anything to formal or serious as I knew I would be emotional on the day so this was a chance for us to really let our hair down. A friend of my Maid of Honor kindly choreographed our dance and taught us. It was so much fun learning the dance together and I’ll have to admit Chris was so much better than I was. On the night our friends and family loved it and most of all we just enjoyed the moment!
